Dan Hayes, candidate for mayor, Bridgewater Township, NJ
These are challenging times. Navigating the challenges on the horizon will not be easy. Tax pressures are extreme. The weakened economy affects our residents and township businesses. State relief is limited. Difficult budget decisions are required to keep taxes in check while still providing essential services and improving our ailing infrastructure, primarily roads. All programs must be scrutinized for value. All plans must be openly communicated and their long-range impact clearly understood before approval – especially in the areas of land use, capital expenditures and budgeting. There must be many opportunities for active resident discussion of key programs before implementation. We must establish an administration that vigilantly defends township interest in issues of land use, capital and budgeting. An administration dedicated to service and ever mindful of resident needs especially residents with fixed incomes.
I want to be part of the solution. Our Township is a wonderful community with a quality of life absolutely worth defending. As an experienced professional and council member with a history of service and accomplishment, I understand tough budgeting, the realities of the unexpected and the importance of meeting commitments. I have the competence, character and commitment to provide the thoughtful governance required for these turbulent times.
I look forward to the prospect of being your Mayor and leading an administration dedicated to service. I look forward to working for you, as your Mayor, with township residents, township businesses, council members and county officials to design solutions that manage development, minimize taxes and maximize taxpayer value from our government.
